Chemicals and Waste Global Environment Facility (GEF) 6 Cycle- (ESM for SMEs)


The Promoting Clean Production and Environmentally Sound Management of Chemicals and Waste for Competitive SMEs in the Philippines (ESM for SMEs) is a project of DTI with the World Bank through Global Environmental Fund (Cycle 6) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Manila Office that aims to upgrade SME’s production processes and capacities consistent with Philippine commitments on Stockholm and Minimata conventions on POPs, heavy metals and other industrial pollutant and producing globally competitive products known to be free from toxic materials and are environmentally sound.


  • Met with Department of Environment and Natural Resources- Foreign-Assisted and Special Projects Service (DENR FASPS), Department of Environment and Natural Resources Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) and Department of Agriculture- Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (DA-FPA) on the finalization and submission of the proposed project by the DENR-EMB entitled “Integrated Program on the Reduction of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and Unintentional Persistent Organic Pollutants (uPOPs) to which the earlier proposal of DTI entitled, “ESM for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)” was integrated and subsumed.
  • Draft Project Implementation Framework endorsed and submitted by GEF Philippine Council Secretariat to GEF.
  • Participated on the launching of DENR’s project with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) on Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) under the Global Environment Facility (GEF)
